Greg is a tax lawyer and CPA in private practice in Athens, GA since 1982. He graduated from the University of Florida with a BSBA in Accounting in 1977 and the University of Georgia Law School in 1980. He spent the first two years of his career in the Miami offices of two of the Big Eight accounting firms. He and his wife, Kay, moved back to Athens in 1982 to start a private law practice with a former tax law professor. Since then, he has had a very successful tax, business and estate planning law practice. He obtained a second law degree in Taxation from Emory Law School in 1989 while maintaining his private practice.
Greg has represented clients in business and tax matters locally and throughout the country. In 2008 he was asked to join the adjunct faculty at UGA to teach family estate planning in the financial planning department where he taught undergraduate and graduate students for 8 years. His passion is to help his clients minimize their tax burden while helping them achieve their financial goals. He has advised clients in their personal tax matters, private businesses, professional practices, and family estate planning for over 40 years. He and his firm prepare over 1500 tax returns each year. He has represented his clients before the IRS in audits and Tax Court matters in over 250 cases. He loves what he does because he loves his clients and always wants to make a positive difference in their lives.
While teaching in the financial planning program at UGA, Greg developed an interest in financial planning and retirement strategies. Upon turning 70 years old in 2024, with no interest in ever retiring, he decided to pursue additional qualifications to become an Investment Adviser Representative and work with Benko Financial Services. Greg has worked with many financial advisors over the years (personally and professionally), but he became particularly interested in the personalized and creative financial planning services offered by Benko Financial Services.
